The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Okay we got that out of the way.

Addie LaRue is 300 years old and as soon as you are out of her presence, you will forget her. Addie has spent 300 years having everyone she meets and likes eventually forget who she is. It’s a very lonely life. This book jumps from present day New York to Paris where Addie was born. You slowly learn about how she came to be immortal and the beginning of her invisible life. This book is a low key fantasy. There’s no creatures or fairy tales, just humans and gods. So there’s no major world building to get through. The story of Addie is one about strength and survival. Addie gets no help from anyone, because nobody knows who she is. She has no money and no place to live, yet she’s survived for 300 years. There is a love story element to this book, but it’s not the main theme. I think the main theme is self-love. Addie learns to use her invisibility as a strength instead of a weakness, you see her suffer but you also see her thrive. We also meet Henry, a young man that is searching for love in other people when really he needs to love himself. There are so many lessons that can be taken from these words. It’s over 500 pages of beautiful writing, emotional moments and deep character development. If you like big, beautiful books this one is for you.

I’m very excited to read more of VE Schwab’s books. I have a copy of A Darker Shade of Magic, but she has a lot more books out there. So if you are a Schwab fan, where do you think I should start?

Happy Reading!!
