Another month of 2019 winter gone. Every day that goes by is a day closer to spring and that is alright be me. I am completely done with winter guys. Winter GTFO. Winter can be super fun, but it’s just way too long in Canada. I’ve got at least another month to get through before it maybe stops snowing. And last April we had the craziest second winter ever with a mad ice storm. So potentially a month and a half left of winter. Ugh.
Okay enough whining. I had planned to read 5 books in February but life got in the way a little and I only managed 4. So here’s my wrap up for the month!
The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer
This book was a really good self improvement read. It was actually so good at making me self reflect that I had to take a break from it at one point and start another book. It really made me think and I still, having read it a few weeks ago now, am applying what I learned to my everyday life. I learned so much that I had to write a 2 part review because it would have been too long! You can read the full review here in Part 1 and Part 2.
The Valley of Horses by Jean M. Auel
This is the second book in a series called Earth’s Children. I loved the first book. Ayla is definitely the badass female hero and I fell in love with her girl crush style. The second book she was just as strong and resilient and she also found true love. The book dragged a bit but it was wonderful to see Ayla grow her strength and independence before meeting the hunky man of her dreams. Because she was able to love him fully and she became even better with him by her side. This is a great historical fiction read. I will be writing more reviews about the next four books in the series as I read them. But here’s the link to book 2.
Educated by Tara Westover
This was my book club’s February pick. This is honestly one of the best memoirs I’ve ever read. I was hooked from page 1. I think the main reason why I loved it so much (beyond the fact that Tara Westover is an incredibly elegant writer) was we are the same age. All the other memoirs I’ve read and loved the author is much older than I am. So their childhood they are writing about is years before I was even born. Reading about Tara’s childhood knowing that all of that was happening when I was a kid, experiencing a vastly different life, was so fascinating. Definitely worth a read. Read the full review here.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
This is the first book in a young adult series. Now maybe at almost 32 I’m getting too old to read YA books but I didn’t really like this one. I won’t be reading any more books in the series, because I’ve got better things to read. This book got my lowest rating to date on this blog and I wouldn’t really recommend it to people.
