Book review: While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory

Book: While We Were Dating

Author: Jasmine Guillory

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Trope: Fake Dating

Rating: 8/10

This is the sixth release from New York Times Best Selling author Jasmine Guillory. I have read all of her books and loved all of them. My favourite thing about her books is how characters overlap in each one. This book stars Anna Gardiner and Ben Stephens. We met Ben briefly in book 3 The Wedding Party. Ben is Theo’s brother and Theo and Maddie were the stars of book 3. And Theo and Maddie are common characters in this sixth book! Trigger warnings: very open discussion of anxiety and depression, sick parent, long lost sibling.

Anna is a movie start and Ben is in advertising. They meet while on set for a commercial Ben is in charge of and Anna is the star. They get along really well and after Ben helps her with a crisis they end up together. They want to keep things casual but then Anna proposes he be her fake boyfriend for some publicity events and he agrees.

Hook: 1/2 – It starts a bit slow. It was fun to see old characters and the set up for Anna and Ben’s story was cute.

Plot: 3/3 – I honestly really enjoyed the whole story. It was super cute and very steamy and sexy. Anna and Ben had great chemistry and I really enjoyed the ending! No complaints!

Writing: 2/2 – As usual I loved JG’s writing. This book had a little bit less of her signature food obsession which I missed but it was still great. Particularly the steam, she does such a good job with that.

Characters: 2/3 – I think my favourite part of JG’s books is guessing who will be the star of a future book. I think Anna’s best friend Penny or her manager Simon have a shot. Overall the characters were great but I would have liked some more info about the side characters, a lot were introduced but so briefly.

Another great book from Jasmine Guillory! You don’t have to read her books in order at all, but if you do you get the fun connections of characters from previous books, which I enjoy!

Happy Reading!

Angie
