Happy Friday bookworms! Can you believe it’s already halfway through January. The first two weeks of 2021 haven’t been great for anybody. I hope you have been able to rest. What happened last week in Washington should not be a surprise to you. White people have been complicit for far too long. We are the problem and we need to wake up. And if you think because you are Canadian that you are exempt from what’s happening. Racism is just as bad in Canada.

- I’m Still Here by Austin Channing Brown
So far this month I’ve read a few books! I have also read my 1 required nonfiction book for the month! I’m planning to read at least 12 nonfiction books this year! I finished a memoir by Martha Teichner called When Harry Met Minnie which releases February 2, 2021. It’s about her friend dying of cancer and she needs to take her dog Harry for her. There a lot of sadness but the book was also super heartwarming.
I also finished Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer Armentrout. I need book 3. Like waiting until April is the worst, but I’m so excited to read it. This is a great fantasy series, if you like Sarah J Maas, this one is similar but darker and sexier.
I finished The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles which releases February 2, 2021. It was a really good historical fiction set in Paris during the WW2 occupation and in Montana in 1983. The main character is a librarian that has memorized the Dewey Decimal System. I recommend for all historical fiction fans.
I also finished The Winter People by Jennifer McMahon. I have loved every book of hers I’ve read. This one was super creepy. Lot’s of scary ghosty vibes but it has a lot of trigger warnings so I would say to look those up before you read. Does the Dog Die is my go to resource for trigger warnings.
Just last night I finished The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. This was an emotional book but also such an adventure. This is a low fantasy read set around January Scaller, a young woman that discovers words have power and doors are never closed forever. It’s a tale of finding family and growing into your own. It was beautiful and I highly recommend it.
My plans for the rest of the month are to reread A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, and A Court of Wings and Ruin before the next book, A Court of Silver Flames releases on February 21. I also need to read The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi which is my in real life book club’s pick for the month. I also want to finally read The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, I will start that one today. So 5 more books at least and maybe I can finally finish Siege & Storm which I’m halfway through and haven’t read since December!
