Well guys I’m still a Ruth Ware fan. I can’t decide if I liked this one more or less than In a Dark, Dark Wood. Maybe more because there was less drama. Turn of the Key comes out this month, which I pre-ordered, so I will still have 3 Ruth Ware books on my shelf to read!

Okay, The Woman in Cabin 10, is a murder mystery that takes place on a big yacht. Lo Blacklock is a travel reporter that is invited to join the first cruise of the Aurora, a small ship with 10 luxury passenger cabins. It’s basically a cruise ship for the really rich, but for the first cruise, reporters and photographers are included with the rich. A few nights before the cruise, Lo wakes up with a thief in her house that shuts her in her bedroom. Then her first night on the ship, Lo hears a splash out her window, looks out and thinks she sees a body sinking in the water and blood on the patio next door. When she reports to security that the woman she met in Cabin 10, right next to hers, might have been thrown out the window, she is told there in no woman in Cabin 10… and the mystery begins.

Plot 2/2 points: This was a really cool thriller because the whole time your unreliable narrator is slowly spinning out of control because no one believes her. So not only are you trying to solve the mystery, but you’re watching an unraveling as well. It was really good and intense.

Writing 2/2 points: I still really like Ruth Ware’s style. In this one she broke the book into parts. At the beginning of each part, you are given a media update in some form about she ship from the mainland, from a few days ahead of the events happening on the ship. Like a little clue as to what’s going to happen. And then you follow Lo and try to figure out how the mainland go to that point! I really liked this style of writing with little clues dropped for me.

Twist 2/2 points: COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED! Ruth Ware gets me every time! That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Hook 1/2 points: The build up was a little slower this time. I think with the first chapter containing a terrifying burglary and then nothing for but back story for a while, it was too slow. That lull annoyed me a little.

Feel 2/2 points: This was really intense and I absolutely loved the ending. The feel throughout was WTF…also imagining myself in Lo’s shoes was freaking me out! I cannot wait to read more of Ruth Ware’s books.
